About this app

Brainscape’s SMART NOTECARDS foster hyper-efficient revision and strong habits to DOUBLE your learning speed, with the strongest implementation of spaced repetition and active recall of any notecard app on the planet! (And probably in the universe, assuming some super intelligent alien species out there hasn’t beaten us to it.)

With a knowledge bank created by millions of global users and experts, you can FIND, MAKE, and SHARE notecards anytime, anywhere, and on any device, while keeping all your content meticulously ORGANIZED and seamlessly IN SYNC across web, mobile, and all your devices.

How does it work? Brainscape’s intelligent revision system has been designed in accordance with decades of proven cognitive science to help you learn faster and remember longer than with any other notecard app. (And we don’t waste time on games. Our notecards are for serious learners.)

Brainscape distills any subject down into bite-sized facts (neatly organized into decks and classes), which are posed as question-and-answer pairs, compelling you to actively recall information from scratch. You then rate how well you know each concept on a scale of 1 to 5, and Brainscape determines the perfect time interval at which to repeat that notecard again.

If you know the answer well, you’ll see that notecard less often; if you don’t know it well, you’ll see it again and again, at frequent intervals, until it’s deeply ingrained into your brain. And it’s this totally unique combination of active recall, self-assessment (metacognition), and spaced repetition that is scientifically proven to significantly slash your required study time!
Where do all of Brainscape’s awesome notecards come from? Three places:

THE WORLD’S TOP EXPERTS. Brainscape partners with top publishers, schools, and educators to create comprehensive collections of certified notecards for a diverse array of subjects, from foreign languages (we are the best language-learning tool in the world) to high-stakes exams like the A level, GCSE, National 5, IGCSE, university studies and more.

YOUR PEERS. Top students, professors, teachers, tutorpreneurs, and businesses around the world have created over 1 million subjects that are available to search on Brainscape’s Knowledge Genome.

YOU! You can easily create and organize thousands of multimedia notecards featuring text, images, and even audio files, both on Brainscape’s website AND within the app itself. You can also share your decks with your classmates and collaboratively develop content together.

How much does it cost? Creating and sharing great text notecards is FREE. (Woohoo! And sorry, we do have to charge for image creation for security reasons.) And for unlimited access to ALL of Brainscape's user-generated and premium, expert-curated content, as well as optional features, like bookmarks and card reversibility--or to make your content private, you can upgrade to Pro for $19.99 (monthly), $59.99 (every 6 months), or $95.99 (annually). Alternatively, you can unlock a LIFETIME of learning with Brainscape for a one-time cost of only $199.99 American dolla billz.

The fine print: The 3 recurring subscriptions (monthly, semiannual, and annual) will renew automatically within 24 hours before the end of the current period, unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the period. You can cancel auto-renewal any time by going to Account Settings, and the cancellation will apply after the active subscription period is complete. Go ahead and learn more about our Terms and Privacy Policy at brainscape.com/terms.

What’s on the horizon? It’s our vision to empower everyone, everywhere to rise to the challenge of personalized forever-learning. And for this reason, we love hearing from our user community: it’s through your feedback that we can continue to innovate our platform to be more convenient, efficient, and even fun and social to use!

I've been trying a bunch of different revision apps, and this seems to be one of the better ones so far! The design is simple but not aesthetically displeasing, and the content is varied and seems to be helpful so far. Unfortunately some sets of flashcards aren't as great as others, particularly if you live in the UK, and it might be a bit difficult to find exactly what you need. With a bit of patience, though, you'll get there.

It's good. Would be perfect if I was able to randomise my deck of cards because if you have a deck of 170 cards and only spend 15 minutes per session on the app, you only end up studying the first section of cards and never get to the other ones. So you end up perfectly remembering the first half of the deck and forgetting what the second of your deck even has. I know it can be done on pc but it's always more convenient to learn on the go. So yh, allow us to randomise our cards on mobile asap! Update/In response to the email: It turns out that even the random option on my pc isn't really random. I tried to find a way to work around this so I split my one massive deck of 170 cards into separate decks of 27 cards. At first having all the decks selected and playing through randomiser seemed to work as I got a pretty good mix of cards from the different decks but then I got 100% mastery on all the decks and now it only focuses on my second or first deck of cards. The best solution I can think of for now is this: . If you have more than 27 cards that you want to study, separate them into different decks . Before you play your first session (playing 10 cards) you make sure all of the decks are highlighted then after you complete the first session, go back to the dashboard and de-select the first deck of cards. This will give the later deck of cards a greater chance of being shown at a quicker rate. . Disqualify the second to first deck of cards after playing another session and keep doing that until you only have the last deck of cards selected. Once you have played the last deck, re-select all of the cards again and then do the same as before. It's not exactly random but it helps with studying a large topic more quickly. Again though, it would really help if they just implemented a proper randomiser.

Hey Michelle, Yes, we hope to allow this functionality in the app soon. If you choose to study via Brainscape.com even from your mobile browser you should be able to activate "Set as Random Mix" when clicking on the gear icon. Hope this helps in the meantime. Courtney@Brainscape

I love this app. I've always struggled with hand written flashcards, always wanting to edit and rewrite which wastes a lot of time. I also forget to carry them with me at all times. This app allows me to study as little or as much as I have time for. I can optimise my ten minute train commute in the morning and evening without having to rake through my bag looking for notes. It's all right here on my phone! Missing one star due to not being able to specify a colour of cards to study
