The CalTopo app integrates with your existing caltopo.com account, and edits sync between the two in seconds. Plan your trip using CalTopo's best-in-class mapping tools and then seamlessly transition to your phone. Once in the field, sync your GPS track back to caltopo.com in real time, or drop markers and instantly share them with friends.
Access CalTopo layers not available elsewhere, including the MapBuilder series, land management, sun exposure, fire activity and custom terrain shading. Pre-packaged map files (subscription required) make for speedy offline downloads and simplified data management. An elevation data layer supports measuring profiles and point elevations, even when offline.

I'm trying to switch to this app for hiking maps but it keeps crashing on me and logging me out and I cannot upload the GPX data from the PCTA and it also crashed again when I tried to submit diagnostics information about this crash. I can't go into the back country with an app that keeps crashing and requiring an internet connection to log back in. The zoom level at which all the trails disappear is absolutely abysmal. I can only see a few dozen miles of a trail at a time.

Best map app I have used. As a geologist and outdoor enthusiast, this app has many features that help with work and play. I particularly like that is easy to integrate lidar data (shaded relief). That alone has saved me hours of importing and converting lidar with various GIS platforms.

Really great app when you're online, unfortunately very lacking offline. Why can't you download any area why are you locked in to predetermined rectangles? Why can you only download a selection of layers? I want to download my custom TMS layers. Probably gonna cancel my pro subscription, if this is fixed I'll resume and give 5 stars
